BIOMIN wins the science2business award 2007

For the first time as part of the “life-science-success 2007” event: a platform that is dedicated to presenting successful co-operations between research institutes and businesses and highlights the importance of such collaborations, the most successful co-operations were awarded with the science2business award. BIOMIN together with the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU Wien) received this award for the development of probiotic feed additives.

These days the importance of close co-operation between education and corporate research to support a thriving economy cannot be doubted. The question no longer is IF there should be a collaboration but HOW the involved parties should work together in order to guarantee the best outcome. The risks and challenges that accompany such co-operations shouldn’t be underestimated. The life-science-success 2007 event offered a platform to exchange experiences and addressed this topic in panel discussions.

The most successful projects that overcame such difficulties were awarded with the science2business award. One of these co-operations was the collaboration between BIOMIN and the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU Wien). This project involved the development of probiotic feed additives: a venture that is gaining more and more importance since the ban on antibiotic growth promoters in the European Union. The use of multi-strain probiotics in animal nutrition is an innovative approach to secure proper livestock performances the natural way without applying antibiotics.
