13th International Conference Forage Conservation (ICFC)

The 13th International Conference Forage Conservation was held at the Slovak Agricultural Research Centre, Research Institute for Animal Production (SARC-RIAP) in Nitra, SK, from September 3rd to 5th 2008. The conference covered a wide range of forage topics including problems of ensiling and preserving forage under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, growth of forage in the light of climatic changes and recent trials with diverse conservative additives used on forages. It also comprised a visit to the central-European institute of game ecology.

The conference hosted speakers and an audience from 13 European countries, presenting about 30 speeches (plenary and short presentations) and about 40 posters. The BIOMIN research contribution was a poster on Clostridia inhibition in soil-contaminated grass silage presented by Karin Schöndorfer.

The conference was a great opportunity to meet forage researchers and developers of additives from different parts of Europe where different climatic conditions are prevalent and different sets of difficulties are encountered on the same topic.
