5th World Mycotoxin Forum in the Netherlands

This conference took place in the Hotel Oranje in Noordwijk , Holland from the 17th to the 19th of November. Romer Labs® and BIOMIN participated at this forum in both, the commercial exhibition and the scientific program. The World Mycotoxin Forum (WMF) is an international meeting series on mycotoxins where food and feed industry representatives meet with people from universities and governments from around the world. It provides a platform for the food and feed industry, regulatory authorities and science to exchange information and experiences on the various aspects of mycotoxins, to review current knowledge related to mycotoxins in food and feed and to discuss strategies for prevention and control of mycotoxin contamination ensuring the safety of food and feed supply.

During the WMF the opinion leaders in the field of mycotoxins had the opportunity to get the latest news on mycotoxin analysis and mycotoxin risk-management at the joint Romer Labs®/BIOMIN booth. At the second conference day BIOMIN and Romer Labs® welcomed the attendees to an Austrian Wine Tasting - many of the opinion leaders followed this invitation and were highly pleased with the Austrian red wine, the Dutch gouda and the friendly Romer Labs® and BIOMIN people.

Besides the involvement in the commercial program Romer Labs® and BIOMIN were also actively participating in the scientific program. Georg Mitterer (Romer Labs®) gave a presentation on the unique fully isotope labelled standards and Dian Schatzmayr presented BIOMINs strategies of deactivating mycotoxins in animal feeds.

In addition to these presentations participants from Romer Labs® and BIOMIN presented posters on analytical methods, occurrence of mycotoxins and concepts for mycotoxin deactivation in the scientific poster session.

The Forum was concluded with a half day workshop of BIOMIN and Romer Labs® which was chaired by Prof. Rudolf Krska. He also gave an introductory talk on new trends of mycotoxin analysis and LC/MS/MS methods for mycotoxin detection. In the second part of the workshop risk management strategies were presented in a series of 5 presentations given by Inês Rodrigues, Gerd Schatzmayr, Daniel Börgel, Dieter Moll and Karin Grießler.

The 5th World Mycotoxin Forum and the satellite workshop was a very successful event and is one of the most important scientific conferences in the field of mycotoxin research and regulations. The next World Mycotoxin Forum will most likely take place in Vienna in 2010.
