Plant-derived feed additives - recent scientific results and regulatory development
The EU project “FEED-SEG” focuses on dissemination of research on feed quality, feed safety and the role of feed additives. Experts from public and private research are assessing the status quo and future development in these areas and are elaborating recommendations for future EU policy and research funding. The requirements of new member states (NMS) are specifically addressed in the project.
FEED-SEG comes to its end this year. For this reason, a final symposium was organized in Parma (Italy), where also the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is located. More than 100 experts coming from science, research, regulatory bodies, companies and other EU projects took the advantage of intensive discussion on the following topics:
- Actual and future research on feed quality, safety and additives, including actually ongoing EU projects
- Animal welfare
- GMO
- Labeling and Traceability
- Regulatory frameworks
- EU policy recommendations established by the FEED-SEG working groups
- Initiation and discussion of new research cooperations and projects
Local food production could finally be experienced in a cheese dairy where the original “Parmigiano Reggiano” was produced, and a visit to a production facility of the famous “Prosciutto di Parma”.
