The 31st Mycotoxin Workshop was held in Münster, Germany from 15th to 17th of June 2009. Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Humpf from the Institute of Food Chemistry, Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster organized this workshop. Altogether 200 participants from 17 different countries mainly from Europe attended the conference.

The following subjects were covered:

• Analytical developments
• Toxicology
• Fungi
• Occurrence of mycotoxins
• Occurrence and synthesis of mycotoxins

A poster was presented by Karin Griessler (Technical Manager, BIOMIN GmbH) about the “Occurrence of mycotoxins in agricultural commodities from Europe in the year 2008”. In addition, Heidi Schwarz from the IFA Tulln in cooperation with the BIOMIN Research centre presented a poster about “An accelerated method for determining sphingoid bases in serum”.

It was a very nicely organised and interesting conference about mycotoxins. In addition to the scientific program, the conference banquet in the “Heaven” in Münster’s port, the visit of the historical “Hall of Peace” as well as the guided tour through the old town by a night watchman in Münster was a very attractive completion of this conference.
