2009 ADSA-, CSAS- and ASAS joint annual meeting in Montreal

The Joint Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®), the Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS) and the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) took place in Montreal from July 12th to July 16th. 2,650 members and guests attended the meeting, including nearly 400 first time attendees. The participants came from more than 54 countries to this truly global gathering. The scientists gave more than 800 oral papers and presented more than 1,060 posters in a wide range of subjects.

On the one hand the BIOMIN team took part in this conference with a booth represented by the sales representatives from the US and Canada and on the other hand with several scientists from the Research- and Development Departments. Anja Ganner (Research Scientist) presented her research on yeast derivates as oral- and poster presentations, Viviana Klose (Senior Scientist in probiotics and gut function) from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences presented recent advancements in the field of probiotic research for application in swine nutrition. Further presentations were given on mycotoxin deactivation strategies (Ursula Hofstetter, Technical Manager, Mycofix®) and application of phytogenics for pigs (Tobias Steiner, Technical Manager, Biomin® P.E.P.).

Additionally to these scientific presentations BIOMIN hosted a breakfast meeting to discuss the impact of mycotoxins on ruminants. Mike Watkins (Technical Manager Ruminants) talked about Mycotoxin Risk management in ruminant nutrition and Gerd Schatzmayr (Research Director) presented new research activities and results in the field of mycotoxins ("Combined strategies to detoxify mycotoxins - the innovative approach").

The annual ADSA-CSAS-ASAS joint conference can be regarded as one of the major conferences in the field of animal sciences and it always provides a good platform to get information about latest research findings and to meet with friends from the scientific community.

For young researchers, it also provides a good opportunity to strengthen their presentation skills and to receive outstanding recognition in form of a competition, by participating in the Graduate Student Paper Contests.
